The Founding Story of Grace Wellness Charity Support Uganda Limited As told by Ndagire Grace Marion, Founder & Director

I have to go back to when I was ten years old, sitting in a primary school classroom, to tell you where Grace Wellness truly began. My parents made sure I lacked nothing. Every term, I came to school with a full set of scholastic materials — new exercise books, pens, pencils, a proper bag, shoes that still had their shine. I never had to raise my hand and admit I had nothing to write with. But I sat beside children who did.

I could see it. A desk-mate covering the shame of a torn bag. A classmate borrowing a pencil stub for the third time in a week, hoping no one would notice. And something in me — even at ten — refused to look away. I could put myself in their shoes. So, I did the only thing a ten-year-old girl with a full school bag could do: I shared it. I gave away books, pens, pencils. When lunch or break time came and I knew a friend had nothing to eat, we split what I had between us.

I laugh when I remember it now, because I didn't have a language for it then — no word like "philanthropy," no idea that I was doing anything unusual. I just knew that compassion, once you feel it in your bowels, doesn't let you eat in peace while someone beside you has nothing. That feeling didn't fade the way childhood things often do. It grew with me — through secondary school, through the years that shape who a person becomes — until it was no longer a ten-year-old's instinct to share a pencil, but a grown woman's conviction that no community should be left to suffer for lack of what others have in abundance.

By God's grace, that conviction was eventually capacitated into something structured, something that could reach further than one classroom and one lunch break: Grace Wellness Charity Support Uganda Limited. A few years into this journey, I found myself walking alongside a noble course through FALA, sharpening not just my compassion but my capacity to lead it well. In 2025, that path brought recognition — I emerged an award winner, a moment that felt less like a personal achievement and more like a confirmation.

The little girl who once emptied her school bag for a classmate was being told, in the clearest way possible: keep going. This calling is real, and it is needed.
